Roadworkers 

Opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s Operations team in our Lochgelly Depot. 

We require experienced Roadworkers with the necessary skills to carry out various road maintenance operations, traffic management and are prepared to participate in our winter and emergency response service on a standby-rota basis. 

You should hold a clean driving licence, LGV Class C (HGV2 preferred) and traffic management qualifications.

1.           Job Purpose:

To carry out general labouring and driving duties, (appropriate to licence), as and when required. 

 

 

  

2.           Responsibilities and Activities:

·       The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers).

·        Preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks, coated and other materials.

·        Hot material patching by hand.

·        Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting.

·        Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.

·        Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery.

·        Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors.

·        Prepare written returns including fault report details.

·        Provide support for specialist roadworkers.

·        Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.

·        Participating in standby and winter maintenance rota.

·        Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.

·         Litter picking.

·         Any other duties as required. 

 

 

3.           Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

·       Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety essential.

·       Knowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.

·       Physically fit for working in sometimes arduous conditions.

·       Experience of using small plant.

·       There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.

·       Full UK driving license preferably at LGV Class C level.

·       Experience of working to tight deadlines and working under pressure.

·       Ability to work effectively in a team.

·       Ability to problem solve.

·       Flexible to working practices.

·        Ability to cope with change. 

·        Ability to work effectively in a team.

·        Good interpersonal skills.

·        Good communication skills.

·        Good planning and organisational skills
