Based within our Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth or Fort William office, we have exciting opportunities to join our fast paced and dynamic North West Roads Structural Maintenance team. The role will see you taking road maintenance projects from inception to completion, with a focus on carriageway surfacing.




The successful candidate will as a minimum be qualified to HNC/HND level in Civil Engineering or a related subject and will have a strong interest or past experience in road maintenance.

1.         Job Purpose:

A Graduate Engineer / Technician / Senior Techncian / Engineer in the Structural Maintenance team based in the Edinburgh or Perth office, the successful candidate will design and deliver structural maintenance resurfacing packages. They will be responsible for taking their assigned schemes from inception to completion, while assisting the Engineers and Roads / Assistant Roads Maintenance Managers.



2.         Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Design, preparation and supervision of Structural Maintenance works under the threshold value of £350,000.


  • Involvement in the annual process for HD28 Skidding Resistance


  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality procedures that form part of the integrated management systems.


  • Planning, programming and delivering projects on time and within budget.


  • Undertaking designs in accordance with the DMRB & SHW, with an emphasis on road pavements and their properties.


  • Preparing and delivering operations in compliance with the CDM Regulation 2015


  • Preparation and management of scheme and site files.


  • Management and supervision of supply chain contractors.


  • Management of health and safety requirements for specified schemes.


  • Preparation of statement of intent and construction bids.


  • Understand traffic management requirements, construction methods, materials and works programming.


  • Liaison with stakeholders.


  • Supervision of site operations


  • Inspection & measurement of completed works


  • Membership of a Professional Institution would be beneficial


  • Full drivers licence essential


  • Comply with all BEAR Scotland policies and procedures
