Bridges Engineer - Perth/Inverness

 

An opportunity has arisen in the North East Unit for an Engineer in the Bridges Team.

 

The Engineer will report to the Bridges Manager and will be responsible for the design and delivery of bridge maintenance schemes as well as assisting with the delivery of cyclic activities and bridge inspections.

 

The role is permanent and while the post will be predominantly office based, some site work will be required along with an element of out of hours working. Candidates should be team players who are flexible, have a can-do attitude, and have a proven track record of delivering programmes of work and meeting tight deadlines.

1.         Job Purpose:

 

§    The Bridges Engineer will assist the Bridges Manager with day-to-day activities relating to the design and delivery of bridge maintenance and replacement projects, bridge inspections, assessments and the programme of cyclic maintenance.  Responsible to the Bridges Manager for execution of allocated works to the appropriate technical standards, to programme and budget.

 

 

 

 

 

2.         Responsibilities and Activities:

 

§    Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.

 

§    Undertake appropriate risk assessments.

 

§    Undertake the Designer’s role in accordance with the CDM Regulations.

 

§    Deliver an agreed number of principal and general inspections to programme.

 

§    Carry out further Special, Superficial and Scour inspections as required.

 

§    Organise the routine, cyclic and reactive works to bridges and structures.

 

§    Monitor sub-standard structures.

 

§    Assist in the process of normal load routeing

 

§    Maintain structural records through clients’ preferred structures management systems.

 

§    Outline and detailed design of bridges projects and the associated cost estimates and the production and retention of adequate design records.

 

§    Produce of tender documents and As of Right construction packages.

 

§    Tender checking and production of tender reports.

 

§    Procure, supervise and measure As of Right operations.

 

§    Assist with the delivery of winter maintenance, predominantly associated with structures.

 

§    Produce, issue and archiving of all drawings, documents and scheme files.

 

§    Comply with technical standards of design and construction

§    Arrange adequate environmental screening and ensure appropriate mitigation measures implemented prior to work commencing in compliance with environmental law.

 

§    Draft Departures from Standard when applicable.

 

 

 

 

 

3.         Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 

§    Considerable current experience and qualifications in a relevant discipline, typically at HND / HNC/ degree level and Chartered or Incorporated (IEng or Ceng MICE, MIStructE or similar) or have proven practical experience which equates to this level of qualification.

 

§    Must be able to work to strict deadlines. 

 

§    A full approved UK driving licence.

 

§    Detailed knowledge of bridge design and construction, particularly in a maintenance environment.
