Quantity Surveyor


As a Quantity Surveyor, the successful candidate will be based in our Perth office working as part of the commercial team.




Key aspects of the role include:


  • Providing expert contractual and commercial advice to our contracts

  • Undertake to manage contract change including dialogue with clients and subcontractors

  • Achieve best value through good quality subcontract procurement and management

  • Prepare and present commercial and financial reports

  • Prepare valuations and applications for payment

  • Produce cost build up for scheme works and monitor the actual costs

    Skills and experience required:


    Candidate must have a minimum qualification of an HNC in Quantity Surveying together with good interpersonal skills and show a willingness to work flexibly and undertake a range of tasks. Experience in the highways or civil engineering sector is desirable although not essential. A good standard of proficiency in MS Excel is required for this role.


    A full UK driving licence is essential.

1.         Job Purpose:


§    The Quantity Surveyor will ensure that the company complies with all procedures regarding valuation, monitoring and reporting of operations by managing and co-ordinating the commercial function including estimating, measurement, valuation and supply chain management processes.






2.         Responsibilities and Activities:


§    Ensure that the correct measurement and valuation principles are applied.


§    Manage the measurement and valuation process for all operations and services undertaken by the company.


§    Maximise value return from all operations undertaken including Planned and Reactive maintenance and Professional Services.


§    Drive for value for money and efficiency savings.


§    Management and administration of sub-contractors accounts including ensuring appropriate contractual arrangement are implemented.


§    Assisting with the preparation and reviewing of the monthly financial accounts.


§    Reporting on the financial aspects of the various contracts overseen.


§    Preparation for and attendance at Measurement Audits and Attendance at Measurement Meetings with Clients.


§    Management and co-ordination of the pricing/bidding and valuation of works to clients for specialist maintenance operations.


§    Calculation of new rate submissions.


§    Checking and authorising measurement records for input to CCMS.


§    Manage Work in Progress reporting and resolution.


§    Ensuring measurement documentation is available to substantiate valuations submitted for payment.








3.         Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


§    Qualification in Quantity Surveying typically at degree/chartered level. 


§    Experience in the construction industry is essential.


§    A full approved UK driving licence.


§    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages and CCMS.


§    Experience of working to tight deadlines and working under pressure.


§    Ability to work effectively in a team.


§    Good communication skills.


§    Ability to problem solve.


§    Flexible to working practices.


§    Capable to self manage work and self motivate.
