A new opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s expanding media and communications team as Media & Communications Assistant.

 

As Media & Communications Assistant for one of Scotland’s leading roads maintenance and management company’s you will work with the Media & Communications Manager and the external public relations agency to help deliver a 24/7 Press Office, enhance the organisation’s digital content strategy and support the internal communications needs. 

 

This is an exciting and varied role with lots of potential for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual looking to develop a career in public relations and communications. 

 

The role would suit a recent communications, media or marketing graduate with first-rate writing skills as well as a keen interest in all forms of media, from traditional journalism and broadcast to social media platforms.  They should have an ability to develop a news angle, an eye for design and the ability to translate ideas into strong content and good visuals.

Job Title:                    Media & Communications Assistant

1.    Job Purpose: To assist with the delivery of the Media & Communications strategy across the business.  Working as part of the team which operates a 24/7 Press Office and digital strategy on behalf of our client, one of Scotland’s largest public sector organisations.      

 

 

2.    Responsibilities and Activities: 

·           To assist with delivering a 24/7 Press Office (in partnership with BEAR’s external agency team), including providing responses to media enquiries, copywriting of press releases and newsletters, issuing statements and the development of media strategies for proactive communications.

·           Prepare, design and create content for social media channels, in-line with digital strategy.

·           Develop and write content for the BEAR website and other marketing literature.

·           Assist with designing and creating quarterly stakeholder newsletters using Adobe Creative Suite programmes.

·           Support on the implementation of communications campaigns utilising print, broadcast and online channels, in-line with client/business objectives and key messages.

·           Development of internal communications content including an employee newsletter and bidding documents.

·           Provide input into both proactive and reactive communications (in partnership with BEAR’s external agency team).

·           Assist with application of the corporate brand guidelines.

·           Generate reports, evaluation and analysis of communications activities on an ongoing basis.

 

 

3.    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

·         Communications, media or marketing degree or equivalent.  The role would suit a recent graduate with excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen interest in all forms of media, from traditional journalism and broadcast to social media platforms.

·         Strong ICT skills - confidence in the use of social media and digital communications and an awareness of data security and the need for careful management of information.

·           Experience of writing compelling content such as news articles, social media posts or marketing collateral.

·           Awareness and understanding of the Scottish media landscape.

·           Ability to develop a news angle and first-rate writing skills.

·           An appreciation of plain English with creative flair.

·           An eye for design and the ability to translate ideas into strong content and good visuals.

·           A confident communicator.

·           Mobile with the ability to travel throughout Scotland (North East and North West areas as covered by BEAR).

·           Experience of using Adobe Creative Suite packages an advantage.

·           Experience in utilising Microsoft Office.

·           Able to work under pressure and under own initiative
