Asset Inspector

A number of opportunities have arisen to join our growing Asset Management team. We are looking for Asset Inspectors in our Perth, Inverness, Keith, Corpach and Inveraray offices. These roles give applicants an opportunity to gain key highway maintenance skills.

The Inspectors will carry out contractual Asset Inspections on the network. These include the Safety Inspections and Detailed Asset Inspections. The post will be both office and site based and will require an element of out of hours working.


We are looking for staff who are keen to develop, flexible and committed to ensuring that our inspections are delivered to a high standard. An essential part of the tole is the ability to assess risks and identify defects.


Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to understand the inspection requirements of our contract as well as able to work as part of a team and under their own initiative.


On the job training will be provided.

 

A full approved driving licence is essential.

1.         Job Purpose:

 

§          The Asset Inspector will carry out of a range of inspections on the network to locate and record defects and well as condition rating trunk road inventory items.

 

 

2.         Responsibilities and Activities:

 

§    Undertake weekly inspections and safety patrols.

 

§    Undertake detailed inspections of carriageways and footways.

 

§    Undertake detailed inspections of other trunk road inventory items.

 

§    Collect and verify roads inventory information.

 

§    Carry out condition rating inspections.

 

§    Ensure data collected is accurate and meets Transport Scotland’s criteria.

 

§    Reporting of inaccurate assets and faults with the data and software.

 

§    Recording and reporting of defects.

 

§    Carry out minor repairs & cyclic maintenance where safe to do so.

 

§    Carry out adhoc inspection when required/instructed.

 

§    Liaison with members of the public as required.

 

§    Maintain vehicles and equipment.

 

§    Other duties applicable to the post as directed from time to time by the Asset Team Leader/Asset Manager.

 

 

3.         Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 

§    Working knowledge of inspection procedures.

 

§    Working knowledge of data capture hardware and software currently in use within the roads maintenance environment.

 

§    Working knowledge of Integrated Road Information System (IRIS).

 

§    Knowledge of Transport Scotland’s Asset Inventory requirements.

 

§    Ability to comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation.

 

§    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages.

 

§    Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure.

 

§    Ability to work effectively in a team.

 

§    Good communication skills.

 

§    Ability to solve problems.

 

§    Flexible attitude to working practices.

 

§    Capable of self management and self motivation.
