£340,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

Works begin Monday 2 August

The A90 at Glamis Junction near Forfar services is to benefit from carriageway surfacing improvements with work set to get underway early next month.

The £340,000 project will involve teams carrying out essential surfacing improvements and lining upgrades to the main carriageway between Loch of Forfar and Glamis Junction, ensuring the integrity and safety of the trunk road network at this location.

The project is scheduled to get underway from 6.30am on Monday 2 August and is planned to take place over five days using 24-hour working, with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 7 August, subject to weather conditions. To allow this project to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows:

  • Sunday 1 August – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for contraflow traffic management to be installed ahead of the project.

  • Monday 2 August to Saturday 7 August – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place between the A926 Junction and A94 Junction from 6.30am on Monday 2 August until 6.30am on Saturday 7 August. Single lane traffic will be travelling in both directions on the northbound carriageway while the A90 southbound carriageway is resurfaced. The A90 southbound off slip at Glamis Junction (A94 Underpass) will be diverted to Invereighty underpass and back up the A90 northbound to Glamis Junction.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This surfacing project will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works round the clock under a contraflow to keep the traffic moving.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
