RESURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE NORTHBOUND A1

April 27, 2022

  • Overnight roadworks 9 to 14 May, 23 to 27 May and 30 May

The northbound A1 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with a total of 12 nights of resurfacing works in two locations scheduled to begin on Monday 9 May and Monday 23 May.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a total of two kilometres of carriageway west of Dolphingstone Junction and at Oaktree Junction.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the following carriageway closures and diversions will be in place between 19:30 and 06:00 each night:

  • On the nights of 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 May, and 17 June, the northbound A1 will be closed between Dolphingstone Junction and Wallyford Junction, with a signed diversion route in place via the A199 and A6094. This diversion will add approximately 0.5 miles and 4 minutes to affected journeys.
  • On the nights of 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 30 May, and 15 and 16 June, the northbound A1 will be closed between Abbotsview Junction and Gladsmuir Junction, with a signed diversion route in place via the A199. This diversion will add approximately 4.6 miles and 8 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing improvements will result in smoother and safer journeys for motorists using these sections of the A1 northbound.

“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption.

“We thank road users and local residents for their patience while we complete these improvements.”
