£125,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A972 PITKERRO ROUNDABOUT TO LONGTOWN ROAD

March 30, 2022

Works start Tuesday 5 April for three nights

A section of the A972 eastbound near Dundee is to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £125,000, with works set to begin on Tuesday 5 April at 7.30pm.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the eastbound section of the A972 between Pitkerro Roundabout and Longtown Road, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is expected to get underway on Tuesday 5 April and is programmed to take place over three nights, with works to take place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night.  The improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 8 April, subject to weather conditions.

To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner, the A972 will be closed between Pitkerro Roundabout and Longtown Road eastbound during working hours. Traffic wishing to access Longtown Road from the A972 westbound will be diverted to Pitkerro Roundabout, Happyhillock Road, Douglas Road, Longtown Road and then down the A972 eastbound. The road will be fully open during the daytime.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £125,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A972, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The closure is essential for ensuring the safety of roadworkers and motorists, however we’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements by carrying out the works overnight.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A972. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
