Monday 17 January
Please be advised that the start date for planned surfacing improvements on the A85 in Oban has been re-arranged as a result of some difficulties experienced with another scheme.
The project was due to get underway on Sunday 16 January, however work will now begin on Tuesday 18 January with works now split into daytime and overnight working.
The project is now programmed to take place as follows:
A lane closure will be in place along Corran Esplanade between 7am and 7pm for safety reasons.
To ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists, Corran Esplanade will be closed between 8pm and 6am. Vehicles will be escorted under a 10mph convoy along George Street and Dunollie Road. Access to Williams Street and Breadalbane Street via Corran Esplanade will be restricted during working hours.
The A85 will remain open during the daytime to keep disruption to a minimum, although road users are asked to drive with care as they will be travelling on a temporary surface. On street parking on Corran Esplanade will be prohibited for the full duration of the project.
Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times. Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.
All relevant stakeholders have been made aware of the changes for these works.
Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland .org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org

A section of the A85 along Corran Esplanade in Oban is set to benefit from an improved road surface with works set to get underway on Sunday 16 January.
The £130,000 investment from Transport Scotland will address defects over a 380 metre section of the route, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.
The overnight project is programmed to begin on Sunday 16 January and is expected to take ten nights to complete. The improvements will take place between 8pm and 6am each night with works scheduled to be completed by 6am on Friday 28 January. No work will be undertaken on Friday or Saturday nights.
The project is programmed to take place as follows:
A lane closure will be in place along Corran Esplanade during working hours for safety.
To ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists, Corran Esplanade will be closed during working hours. Vehicles will be escorted under a 10mph convoy along George Street and Dunollie Road.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A85 at Corran Esplanade will address any defects and greatly improve the road surface for motorists.
“The traffic management proposed, involving road closures and the use of a convoy system, is essential to the safety of roadworkers and motorists given the narrow road widths present at this location in Oban. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the required work overnight.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and allowing extra time to reach their destination.”
