Works start Monday 26 July for three nights

A section of the southbound M90 at Kelty is set to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £150,000 starting next week.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the M90 on approach to Junction 4 southbound off-slip, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The overnight project is scheduled to get underway from Monday 26 July and is expected to take place over three nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am with works due to be completed by Thursday 29 July.

To keep roadworkers as well as motorists safe, the M90 southbound will be closed from just after Junction 5 off-slip until Junction 4 on-slip. All southbound traffic will be diverted off the M90 at Junction 5 onto the B996 to Kelty before re-joining the M90 at Junction 4 via Station Road and Cocklaw Street. The road will be fully opened out with these times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £150,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the M90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management in place is essential for ensuring the safety of our team as well as motorists, however we’ve planned the project to take place overnight and have arranged for traffic management to be removed during the daytime to help limit disruption.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the M90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
