Sections of the M90 southbound and A9 northbound carriageway near Perth are set to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £180,000 with work set to get underway later this month.
The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the M90 just after Broxden Roundabout, before moving on to address the A9 northbound between Broxden Roundabout and the Noah’s Ark Overbridge. The projects will create a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.
The overnight project is scheduled to get underway from Sunday 20 June and is expected to take place over six nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am with works due to be completed by Saturday 26 June. To ensure roadworkers as well as motorists are kept safe throughout the project, restrictions will be in place for safety as follows:
Sunday 20 June to Monday 21 June, 7.30pm to 6.30am (two nights)
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the M90 southbound carriageway will be closed from Broxden Roundabout to Junction 10 during working hours. All traffic will be diverted along Glasgow Road, South Street, Dundee Road and back on the M90. The M90 will remain fully open during the daytime.
Tuesday 22 June to Friday 25 June, 7.30pm to 6.30am (four nights)
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, single lane closures and a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £180,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen these sections of the M90 and A9 near Broxden Roundabout, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“The traffic management in place is essential for ensuring the safety of our team as well as motorists, however we’ve planned the project to take place overnight and have arranged for traffic management to be removed during the daytime to help limit disruption.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the M90 and A9 near Perth. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
