ROAD SAFETY PROJECT TO UPGRADE SAFETY BARRIER ON A92 NEWTONHILL TO MARYWELL TO GET UNDERWAY

Work starts Monday 2 November for approximately two weeks

A road safety project on the A92 between Newtonhill and Portlethen is set to get underway next week.

The £285,000 project originally began in March but was postponed in response to the Governments Covid-19 restrictions, with work rescheduled to begin from Monday.  The project will see teams complete improvements to the safety barriers in the central reserve between Newtonhill and Portlethen, creating a safer route for motorists.

The safety improvements are programmed to resume on Monday 2 November and are scheduled to take up to two weeks to complete.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a series of northbound and southbound single lane closures will be in place throughout the duration of the project. To help minimise disruption, the lane closures will be phased to reduce the overall length of carriageway required to be closed.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “We are delighted that this road safety project on the A92 is set to get back underway after it was paused due to restrictions back in March. Safety remains a top priority for BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland and this scheme on the A92 will help ensure this section of the network remains safe.

“The traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe during this project as teams will be working in the central reserve, however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while we carry out the project.  Our teams will do all they can to ensure that this project is completed as quickly and as safely as possible.”
