An essential road maintenance project on the B969 Western Avenue (A92 Balfarg Junction) is set to get underway later this week.
The project will involve teams completing road marking upgrades to complement the recently installed footway as well as carriageway surfacing improvements which were postponed earlier this year in response to Scottish Government Covid-19 restrictions. As part of the works, teams will also carry out cleaning and CCTV surveying of the drainage system of the junction ahead of a road safety project which is scheduled to take place later this financial year.
The overnight project is scheduled to begin on Thursday 12 November and is programmed to take place over two nights between 7.30pm to 6.30am, with work scheduled to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 14 November.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the B969 will be closed during working hours. A signed diversion for motorists will be in place via Preston Roundabout and A911 Queensway. The A92 northbound and southbound, as well as C49 Start Road (Tofthill) will remain open throughout the works. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway. New safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A92 will ensure the network remains at the highest of standards and will see teams completing improvements that were postponed earlier this year due to Scottish Government Covid-19 restrictions.
“The traffic management restrictions are essential to keep everyone safe during the project, however we’ve planned the improvements to take place overnight to help limit the overall impact to road users.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible. We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
These works have been planned in consultation with North Glenrothes Community Council, Fife Council and Police Scotland and are part of a wider range of improvement projects planned for the area to increase road safety on the A92.
