UPDATE: There has been an update to the dates of resurfacing improvements and closures on the A82 Achintore Road. BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is enhancing the A82 at Achintore Road, with a £2 million investment in surfacing improvements along a 4056m stretch of carriageway. The works began on Sunday 3 September, marking a significant step towards ensuring the longevity of this section of the A82 between South of Druimarbin and the West End Roundabout in Fort William.

To ensure workers’ and motorists’ safety, the A82 is closed nightly between 8pm and 6am until the morning of Saturday 11 November. There will be no works on Friday 3 or Saturday 4 November, but there will be work on the night of Friday 10 November. Short amnesty periods (9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am, 4am) will let vehicles through. A 30mph speed limit will be in place during non-work hours due to the temporary road surface before the surfacing is complete. The project is due to be completed by the morning of Saturday 11 November, dependant on weather.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Noisier operations will be carried out before 11pm to minimise the disturbance to nearby locals and residents at the hotels and guest houses. All of the workforce will be reminded of the need to keep noise to a minimum.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “This project at the A82 Achintore Road is crucial, addressing road defects and enhancing the driving experience for motorists. The temporary night closures are an essential measure to guarantee the safety of both our road workers and the public.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot or Twitter at @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
