£265,000 WEEKEND SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS, A90 BARNHILL

June 22, 2021

Works begin Friday 25 June

The A90 north at Barnhill near Perth is set to benefit from carriageway surfacing improvements with work set to get underway on Friday.

The £265,000 project will involve teams carrying out essential surfacing improvements and lining upgrades to the Barnhill northbound on-slip and the A90 just after Friarton Bridge, ensuring the integrity and safety of the trunk road network at this location is maintained.

The project is scheduled to get underway from 7.30pm on Friday 25 June and is planned to take place over three days using 24-hour working, with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 28 June.

To allow the work to take place safely, traffic restrictions will be in place as follows:

  • Thursday 24 June, from 7.30pm

A single lane will be closed in both directions on the A90 while teams remove road barriers and prepare the area for the installation of a contraflow traffic management system for the weekend surfacing work.

  • Friday 25 June 7.30pm – Monday 28 June 6.30am

A contraflow system will be in place on the A90 from Friday night while surfacing work takes place.  One lane of traffic will be running in each direction on the southbound A90 throughout the weekend to ensure roadworkers and motorists are kept safe during the project.   Due to the location of the work, the A90 northbound off-slip and on-slip roads at Junction 11 will be closed during the project.  Diversions will be in place for permitted motorway users wishing to access Junction 11, with motorists directed via Junction 9 (Bridge of Earn) and back on the northbound M90 to Junction 11 off-slip, or via the Kinfauns Interchange and back on the A90. Regrettably, users prohibited from the motorway will be diverted between Perth and Dundee via Coupar Angus on the A94 and A923.

All work is expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 28 June, with all traffic management removed.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £265,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out surfacing improvements on this section of the A90 at the Barnhill Interchange to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise disruption as much as we can, we’ve planned the improvements to take place over one weekend using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
