Friday 22 August
Please be advised that overnight surfacing improvements planned for a section of the A96 in Keith, outlined in the release below, have been rescheduled.
The project had been programmed to get underway from Sunday 29 August over two weeks, however due to operational issues impacting another surfacing scheme, this project has been pushed back and will now begin on Tuesday 31 August. All work is expected to be completed by 6.30am on Tuesday 14 September. No works will be carried out on Friday or Saturday nights.
Traffic management will remain the same as originally programmed, a 10mph convoy system will be in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am. For safety, Station Road and Wellington Terrace will be closed with traffic being diverted via the B9116. Nelson Terrace and Duff Street will also be closed with traffic being diverted onto Fife Street via Mar Place. Temporary traffic lights will be in place at Fife Street, Regent Court and Union Street. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.
All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

A section of the A96 in Keith is set to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £280,000 with work set to get underway from Sunday.
The improvements will address defects in the road surface creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists. The project follows on from surfacing improvements carried out on the A96 through Keith earlier this year.
The project is scheduled to start on Sunday 29 August and will take place over two weeks between 7.30pm and 6.30am. Surfacing improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 10 September, subject to weather conditions. No works will be carried out on Friday or Saturday nights.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £280,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A96, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“The traffic management is essential for everyone’s safety however we’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works overnight and removing all traffic management during the daytime to further limit any impact to motorists.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A96. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
