Wednesday 9 March

Dayshift and nightshift works planned between Monday 21 March and Friday 25 March

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety from Wednesday 23 March, 8pm – 6am

Motorists using the A85 west of Comrie are set to benefit from drainage improvements with £30,000 worth of upgrades due to begin on Monday 21 March.

The project will involve teams upgrading the existing drainage system as well as replacing an existing culvert just outside of Comrie.

The project is set to begin on Monday 21 March and is programmed to take place across two days and two nights. All works are expected to be complete by 6am Friday 25 March, subject to weather conditions.

The project is programmed to take place as follows:

  • Daytime – Monday 21 March to Tuesday 22 March (two days)

To allow teams to safely conduct drainage improvements, a single lane closure with temporary traffic lights will be in place between 7am and 7pm each day.

  • Overnight – Wednesday 23 March to Friday 25 March (two nights)

In order to complete the culvert replacement works safely, a full road closure with signed diversions will be required between 8pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the A85 to Lochearnhead, A84 to Doune, A820 to Stockbridge, A9 to Auchterarder, A823 and A822 to Crieff and A85 to Comrie.  The A85 at this location will remain open during the daytime, however due to the nature of the works, a lane closure with temporary traffic signals will be in place outwith working hours.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the Traffic management arrangements

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “This £30,000 drainage improvement project will greatly improve the safety of the A85 west of Comrie. The upgrades will help ensure any excess water on the A85 is drained away from the carriageway effectively.

The traffic management planned is essential to the safety of our workforce and road users; however, we’ve have planned the most disruptive phase of the project to take place overnight to help limit the impacts felt.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible. We thank road users and any affected residents for their patience in advance and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for real-time journey information.”
