Project to begin on Monday 7 February for eight days

A section of the A85 east of Cruachan Power Station, near Loch Awe is to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway on Monday 7 February.

The project will see improvements completed to a 1.5km section of the A85, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

The project is scheduled to begin on Monday 7 February and is programmed to take place over eight days, with all works expected to be completed by Wednesday 16 February, subject to weather conditions. No works are programmed to take place on Saturday or Sunday.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the project will be undertaken utilising a lane closure with a 10mph convoy system between 7am and 7pm each day. Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A85 between Loch Awe and Taynuilt will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The convoy traffic management programmed is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“The road will be operated under a temporary 30 mph speed limit when works are not taking place and we will be avoiding Saturday and Sunday to minimise disruption over the weekend period.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan their journeys ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
