ADVERSE WEATHER IMPACTS ONGOING SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A82 BETWEEN GLENCOE AND FORT WILLIAM

Please be advised that adverse weather last week impacted ongoing surfacing operations on the A82 between Glencoe and Fort William.

The project was expected to be completed by Monday 14 March, however works are now anticipated to be completed by 7pm on Wednesday 16 March, subject to weather conditions.

The works are now planned to take place as follows:

  • A82 Allt-na-reigh – Wednesday 2 March to Friday 4 March (three days), 7am – 7pm
  • A82 Lairig Eilde Bridge – Monday 7 March to Tuesday 8 March (two days), 7am – 7pm
  • A82 Rannoch Moor – Wednesday 9 March to Wednesday 16 March (six days), 7am – 7pm

Traffic management will remain the same as originally programmed, with a 10mph convoy system in place between 7am and 7pm each day. Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, but a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place as road users will be travelling on a temporary surface. No work is planned on weekends.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Friday 18 February

Works to begin from Tuesday 22 February

Surfacing improvements covering three locations on the A82 trunk road between Glencoe and Fort William are set to get underway from 7am on Tuesday 22 February, subject to weather conditions, creating a safe and smoother journey for road users.

Works at the first location, north of Corrychurachan, are scheduled to take place over a single day on Tuesday 22 February and will be followed by further works at Lairig Eilde and Rannoch Moor from Monday 28 February which are expected to take 11 days to complete. All works will take place between 7am and 7pm each day, with all works expected to be completed by 7pm on Monday 14 March, subject to weather conditions. No works are planned to take place on weekends.

To protect motorists as well as roadworkers, a 10mph convoy system will be in place at each location during working hours. The convoy system will be removed outwith working hours, however due to the nature of the works a temporary 30mph speed restriction will remain in place as road users will be travelling over a temporary surface. The work is planned to take place as follows:

  • A82 North of Corrychurachan – Tuesday 22 February (one day).
  • A82 Lairig Eilde – Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March (five days).
  • A82 Rannoch Moor – Monday 7 March to Monday 14 March (six days).

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This programme of re-surfacing work for the A82 will help address any defects in the road surface at three locations between Glencoe and Fort William, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

“The proposed traffic management will help to keep roadworkers and motorists safe, and we will seek to minimise the delays experienced by completing these necessary works as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and we encourage all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information.”
