£310,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A92 CARDENDEN TO LOCHGELLY

March 10, 2022

SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A92 CARDENDEN TO LOCHGELLY WILL NOW BEGIN ON MONDAY 28 MARCH

Please be advised that surfacing improvements planned for a section of the A92 between Cardenden and Lochgelly are now scheduled to begin on Monday 28 March.

The project was due to get underway on Thursday 31 March and take place over one weekend, however works are now programmed to start on Monday 28 March for seven nights, excluding Friday and Saturday night.

The contraflow system that was programmed will no longer be required, instead there will be a lane closure with temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night. The A92 Lochgelly southbound off-slip will also be closed during working hours. Traffic will be diverted to Cowdenbeath Junction and then back up the A92 to the Lochgelly northbound off-slip. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Works start Thursday 31 March

A southbound section of the A92 is to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £310,000, with work set to get underway on Thursday 31 March.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A92 between Cardenden and Lochgelly, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is expected to get underway on Thursday 31 March at 7.30pm and is programmed to take place over three days. Works will take place consecutively where possible, with surfacing due to be completed by 6am on Monday 4 April, subject to weather conditions. To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner traffic management restrictions will be required on the network as follows:

  • Thursday 31 March to Friday 1 April – Overnight lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am to allow contraflow traffic management to be installed ahead of the project beginning. A single lane closure will remain in place on the northbound carriageway during the day on Friday for safety reasons.

  • Friday 1 April to Monday 4 April – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place between Cardenden and Lochgelly with all traffic running in contraflow on the A92 northbound. The contraflow system will be in place from 7.30pm on Friday 1 April until 6.30am on Monday 4 April. The A92 Lochgelly southbound off-slip will also be closed throughout the project for safety. Traffic will be diverted to Cowdenbeath Junction and then back up the A92 to the Lochgelly northbound off-slip.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £310,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A92, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements with operations occurring consecutively where possible. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A92. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
