£360,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY ON A95 AVIELOCHAN TO KINVEACHY

January 24, 2022

Works to continue for eight days

A surfacing improvement project on the A95 near Aviemore that will improve the condition of the trunk road is now underway.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the A95 at Avielochan, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project got underway today (Monday 24 January) and is programmed to take place over eight days. The improvements will be carried out between 8am and 5.30pm each day, with surfacing due to be completed by 5.30pm on Tuesday 1 February, subject to weather conditions. No works are programmed to take place on Sunday 30 January.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a temporary traffic lights with a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. The convoy system will be removed outwith working hours, however due to the nature of the works, the temporary traffic lights will be required to remain in place overnight.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £360,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A95 near Aviemore, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably there will be some delays but our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these works on the A95. We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information.”
