January 21, 2022

Works start Monday 24 January for four nights

  • Overnight lane closures, 7.30pm to 6.30am

A section of the A90 Kingsway west in Dundee is to benefit from surfacing improvements, with work set to get underway on Monday 24 January from 7.30pm.

The £40,000 improvements will address defects in the road surface on the A90 at Myrekirk Roundabout, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to begin on Monday 24 January and is expected to take place over four nights, with surfacing due to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 28 January. The programme of work will be split into two phases to ensure minimal disruption to motorists and is programmed to take place as follows:

  • Phase one – Monday 24 to Tuesday 25 January (two nights)

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during the surfacing improvements, works will take place between 7.30pm and 6.30am with signed diversions in place during working hours. Traffic travelling A90 northbound will be diverted via Myrekirk Road, Liff Road and then the A90 northbound. Traffic travelling southbound wishing to enter Myrekirk Road and retail area will be diverted to Swallow Roundabout. Traffic travelling southbound from Myrekirk Road will be diverted to Coupar Angus Roundabout and back down the Kingsway eastbound.

  • Phase two – Wednesday 26 January to Friday 28 January (two nights)

Surfacing improvements to the southbound carriageway of Myrekirk Roundabout will take place between 7.30pm and 6.30am. A signed diversion will be in place during this time. On Wednesday night, all southbound traffic wishing to enter Myrekirk Road will be diverted via the A90 Swallow Roundabout, onto the A85 Riverside, Apollo Way and Explorer Road. On Thursday night a convoy system and temporary traffic lights will be in place for safety. Additionally, all traffic wishing to enter Myrekirk Roundabout from Myrekirk Road northbound approach will be diverted along South Road, Butlers Loan and back on the Kingsway eastbound. Diversion routes can be seen below.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £40,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“For safety, lane closures must be in place while we complete the work at Myrekirk Roundabout, however we’ve arranged the work to take place overnight to help minimise disruption. We’ll also ensure any noise is kept to a minimum where possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
