£510,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A86/A889 JUNCTION TO STRATHMASHIE

August 23, 2022

ADDITIONAL OVERNIGHT ROAD CLOSURE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A86/A889 JUNCTION TO STRATHMASHIE

Please be advised that due to the public holiday for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, an additional overnight closure is required to complete surfacing improvements on the A86/A889 Junction to Strathmashie.

The works were scheduled to be complete by Friday 16 September, however an additional night of work is required on Tuesday 20 September. Works will take place between 8pm and 6am, with all works expected to be complete by 6am Wednesday 21 September, subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will remain as previously programmed; due to the narrow widths on this location of the A86, to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a road closure will be in place. Amnesty periods (where works are temporarily suspended) will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am to allow motorists to be escorted through the site.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland .org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Works to begin on Sunday 4 September for ten nights

  • Overnight road closure to be implemented 4 to 15 September 7pm-7am

  • No works to be undertaken on Friday and Saturday nights

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out surfacing improvements on the A86 south of Laggan at the A889 junction to Strathmashie – approximately 1km – with works set to begin on Sunday 4 September for ten nights.

The works are scheduled to take place over ten nights, with works planned between 7pm and 7am each night. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights and all works are anticipated to be complete by 7am Friday 16 September, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the narrow widths on this location of the A86, to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a road closure will be in place. Amnesty periods (where works are temporarily suspended) will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 11pm, 1am and 4am to allow motorists to be escorted through the site. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential resurfacing works on the A86 at the A889 junction to Strathmashie will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users.

“Due to the narrow widths of the carriageway on this section of the A86, the traffic management proposed is essential in keeping our roadworkers as well as motorists safe. We will not be undertaking any works on the Friday or Saturday night to minimise the disruption experienced at the weekend.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
