Works start Monday 18 July for 15 days

  • Daytime safety barrier works on A85, 8am – 6pm

  • Overnight A82 surfacing improvements on 20 July, 7pm – 7am

Improvements at the A85/A82 Tyndrum Junction are set to get underway on Monday 18 July, with new safety barriers to be installed on A85 and road re-surfacing works to be undertaken on the A82.

The new barriers to be installed on the A85 will improve safety on the route by affording greater protection to roadside hazards, whilst the surfacing improvements on the A82 will create a safer and smoother journey for road users in the area.

The works on the A85 are the latest in a package of measures that has been implemented over the past 18 months, which has included road re-surfacing and improved road markings at various locations, safety barrier works and the installation of new vehicle activated electronic signage.

The safety barrier works are expected to take place over 15 days, between 8am and 6pm.  No works will take place on Saturdays and Sundays and completion of the improvements is expected by 6pm on Friday 5 August, subject to weather conditions.

To minimise disruption to motorists, surfacing improvements will also take place on the A82 at Tyndrum on Wednesday 20 July for one night between 7pm and 7am subject to weather conditions.

The works are summarised to take place as follows:

  • A85 Tyndrum safety barrier works – Monday 18 July – Friday 5 August, 8am – 6pm (15 days)

To protect roadworkers as well as motorists, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works. On Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 July, the traffic lights will be removed to accommodate nearby road surfacing works on the A82 at Rannoch Moor Summit and A82 Tyndrum.

  • A82 Tyndrum surfacing improvements – Wednesday 20 July, 7pm – 7am (one night)

For the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, temporary traffic lights with a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “Road safety is a top priority at BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland, and the works on the A85 and A82 at Tyndrum are part of our commitment to improving the safety on the trunk road network.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential to protect our workforce as well as motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption, by removing the temporary traffic signals on the A85 overnight whilst surfacing operations take place on the A82, to keep traffic moving.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage all road users to plan their journeys by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”
