£70,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A92 MUCHALLS

November 11, 2021

Works start Wednesday 24 November for two nights

A section of the A92 near Muchalls is to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £70,000 with works set to get underway on Wednesday 24 November at 7.30pm.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A92 between Newtonhill and Muchalls, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is set to begin on Wednesday 24 November and is programmed to take place over two nights.  The improvements will be carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, with all works expected to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 26 November, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a lane closure with temporary traffic signals and a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. The lane will reopen during the day with all traffic management to be removed outwith working hours. The Walkers Road Junction will be closed throughout the duration of the works with motorists being diverted through Muchalls via Marine Terrace, along Dunnyfell Road to then re-join the A92.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £70,000 surfacing project near Muchalls will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A92 to create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management in place during the works is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption by arranging the convoy system to be in place overnight to limit the impact felt by road users and have planned for traffic management to be removed during the daytime.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements the A92. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
