A landscape maintenance scheme worth over £80,000 is to take place on the A92 near Thornton in Fife with works set to get underway from Saturday.
The project will improve the areas of woodland adjacent to the A92 between Bankhead Roundabout and Redhouse Roundabout. The works will involve cutting overgrown scrub and vegetation as well as thinning the existing treeline to promote healthier growth of the remaining trees on the southbound verge. A number of trees will also be felled for the safety of trunk road users and local residents. Litter picking by Fife Council will also be carried out within the road closure.
The project will begin at 6am on Saturday 19 February and is expected to take place over two weeks. The project has been split into phases to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum during the work, with the project due to take place as follows.
Consultation has taken place with the relevant stakeholders in advance of the works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “These works will involve our landscaping teams clearing some of the vegetation next to the A92, promoting healthier growth but also ensuring that any trees or branches that could pose a hazard are removed.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works at weekends to ensure the project timescale is kept to a minimum. The closures are essential for keeping our operatives safe as well as motorists.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out this essential maintenance on the A92. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
