A section of the A96 between Nairn and Forres is to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £85,000 with work set to get underway on Monday 17 January at 7.30pm.
The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the A96 at the Hardmuir Wood Junction, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.
The project is expected to get underway on Monday 17 January and is programmed to take place over four nights. The improvements will be carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, with surfacing due to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 21 January.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, temporary traffic signals with a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. All traffic management is expected to be removed out with working hours.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £85,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A96 between Nairn and Forres, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements by carrying out the project overnight, however we’ll do all we can to ensure that this project is completed as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these works on the A96. We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information.”
Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
