Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to resurface the A1 east of Abbotsview Junction at two locations on the northbound and southbound carriageways.
Ten nights of resurfacing works are scheduled between 19:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 12 to Friday 23 February, with no works planned for Saturday or Sunday nights.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, carriageway closures will be in place on the A1, with signed diversion routes in place as follows:
The southbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed between Abbotsview Junction and Thistly Cross Roundabout. A diversion will be in place via the A199, adding approximately 0.1 miles and 3 minutes to affected journeys.
The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed between Thistly Cross Roundabout and Abbotsview Junction. A diversion will be in place via the A199, again adding approximately 0.1 miles and 3 minutes to affected journeys.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the A1.
“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience.”
