The A1 trunk road between Thistly Cross and the national border at Lamberton is to be upgraded with improved road markings and studs over 22 nights of roadworks from Tuesday 19 April to Monday 16 May and the nights of Friday 20 May and Monday 23 May.
The £880,000 project will be carried out by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, sections of the A1 will be closed during the works as detailed in the table below. Work will take place between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night, with no works planned for Saturday or Sunday nights.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.
Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These overnight improvement works will improve safety for motorists using the A1 between Dunbar and the national border.
“We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise any disruption, however we encourage motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys if they do need to travel on these nights.”
