A1 RESURFACING WORKS AT INNERWICK

August 31, 2022

  • Overnight road closure at Innerwick Southbound

  • Works scheduled for 21-23 and 26-27 September 2022

The A1 near Innerwick is set to benefit from an improved road surface with five nights of resurfacing works scheduled for 21–23 and 26-27 September 2022.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface 1km of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the Southbound carriageway of the A1 at Innerwick will be closed for five nights on 21–23 and 26-27 September between 19:30 and 06:00 each night.

A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the duration of the works, directing traffic from the A720, A68, A697 and A6105 to rejoin the A1 at the Berwick-upon-Tweed bypass. Northbound traffic using the A1 will remain unaffected.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the A1.

“Road closures are essential for safety, however we’ve scheduled them to take place overnight to minimise disruption.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
