A1 SOUTHBOUND RESURFACING SOUTH OF TYNE BRIDGE

July 22, 2022

  • Overnight roadworks 1-5 August 2022

The A1 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with five nights of resurfacing works set to begin on Monday 1 August 2022.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface approximately 2.4 kilometres of the southbound carriageway of the A1.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the southbound A1 will be closed between Abbotsview junction and Thistly Cross Roundabout from 19:30 until 06:00 each night from Monday 1 August to Friday 5 August.

Southbound traffic will be diverted via the A199, adding approximately 0.1 miles and 3 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will result in smoother and safer journeys for motorists using this stretch of the A1.

“A carriageway closure is essential for safety, however the diversion is relatively short and we’ve scheduled the works overnight in order to minimise disruption.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

All work is weather-dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
