A68 RESURFACING NEAR RAVENSWOOD AND CARFRAEMILL

November 4, 2024

  • Twelve overnight road closures from 25 November 2024

Three sections of the A68 near Ravenswood and Carfraemill are set to benefit from carriageway improvements, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning resurfacing works on twelve weekday nights during November and December.

Works will take place at the following locations:

  • A68 Ravenswood to River Tweed: The A68 north of Ravenswood Roundabout will be closed in both directions between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Monday 25 to Friday 29 November, and Monday 2 December. A diversion route will be signposted between Earlston and St Boswells via the A6105, A6089, Kelso and the A699, adding approximately 35 minutes and 19.3 miles onto affected journeys.
  • A68 South of Carfraemill Roundabout & at Wiselawmill (1 mile south of Carfraemill): The A68 will be closed in both directions south of Carfraemill Roundabout between 19:30 and 06:00 each night from Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 December, Monday 9 to Friday 13 December, and Monday 16 December. A diversion route will be signposted between Carfraemill Roundabout and Earlston via the A697, A6089 and A6105, adding approximately 10 minutes and 8 miles onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A68 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
