A68 RESURFACING SOUTH OF SOUTRA

September 5, 2024

  • Overnight road closures 12 and 13 September and 7 to 11 October 2024

The A68 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with a total of seven nights of resurfacing works at two locations south of Soutra set to begin on Thursday 12 September.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface approximately 1.3km of carriageway on the A68, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, the following road closures will be in place between 19:30 and 06:00 each night:

  • Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September: Full closure of the A68 south of the B6368 Gilston junction.
  • Monday 7 to Friday 11 October: Full closure of the A68 at Oxton.

A signed diversion will be in place on each night of these works between the B6458 Tynehead junction and Ravenswood Roundabout, via the B6458, A7 and A6091. This diversion will add approximately 5.7 miles and 14 minutes to affected journeys..

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “We’ve scheduled these essential works at night to minimise disruption, however if you do need to travel at these times, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for your journey.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their understanding while we make these improvements.”

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans. Local residents requiring access through the works will also be contacted.
