A7 EMBANKMENT REPAIR NORTH OF LANGHOLM

October 3, 2024

  • Temporary traffic lights for four weeks from 7 October 2024

  • Intermittent closures for several minutes

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is planning to carry out a repair to the embankment on the A7 at Ewes Water, just south of the High Mill Bridge, north of Langholm.

Work will commence on Monday 7 October 2024 for four weeks, within a lane closure controlled by temporary traffic lights.

To allow specific operational manoeuvres to be carried out safely, it will be necessary to intermittently hold traffic in both directions for several minutes.

The work will involve placing rock-filled bags on the embankment to strengthen it and prevent further erosion.

The north part of the Kilngreen Car Park will be used to store materials and plant, with the permission of Dumfries and Galloway Council.  The rest of the car park will remain open throughout the works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Most traffic using the A7 will not experience any significant delays as a result of these works, however there will be intermittent periods when traffic will need to be held at the lights for several minutes.

“if you need to travel on the A7 north of Langholm over the next few weeks, please take this into consideration when planning your journey.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we complete these essential repairs.”
