The A7 south of Langholm is set to benefit from improved road markings, with three nights of work scheduled from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 October.
The project will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland make improvements to the standard of road markings across this section, creating safer journeys for motorists.
To ensure the safety of road users and the workforce during these works, the A7 will be closed in both directions between the B720 Hollows junction and Langholm from 19:30 until 06:00 each night from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 October. A clearly signed diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be in place between Hawick and Canonbie, via the A698, A6088 and B6357. This will add approximately 7.7 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.
BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager Tommy Deans said: “These new road markings will enhance safety for users of the A7. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the work being done, we have no option but to close the road while these improvements are completed.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however If you do need to use this route at night on the three nights from 28 October, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for your journey.
“We’re grateful to motorists and local communities for their understanding.”
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
