The A702 Westwater Bridge Emergency Scour Remediation has won the Best Small Project 2023 at this year’s Scottish Civil Engineering Awards.
The SCE Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement in Scotland and have grown into the highest honour for engineering excellence in the built environment.
BEAR’s submission was recognised for the speed within which works were completed and their dynamic, risk-based approach to managing the emergency works following scour damage to the bridge earlier this year. This approach balanced the findings of visual inspections and real-time monitoring against the disruption to traffic on a key transport link, should the bridge have had to remain closed while works were carried out.
BEAR Scotland led the project on behalf of Transport Scotland, with CainTech, Dywidag and NuCity Civils completing the supply chain.
