Resurfacing works on the A720 City of Edinburgh Bypass will now be completed tonight, ahead of the original programmed date of 2 August.
This has been made possible by the use of additional resources and better than expected progress by the teams that have been working through the night at various locations between Millerhill and Straiton.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland has been carrying out the £1.5 million programme of improvements since 22 June.
The works were completed in three phases, with the first phase completed on the westbound carriageway between Gilmerton Junction and Straiton Junction, the second phase on the slip road exiting the eastbound A720 at Gilmerton Junction, and the third phase between Millerhill Junction and Sheriffhall Roundabout. The works also saw road markings upgraded.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South- East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements have addressed and repaired defects in the road surface such a potholes and cracking, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists using the bypass.
“We are delighted that the works have progressed quicker than originally anticipated.
“We thank motorists for their patience whilst our teams undertook these improvements.”
