A82 DRUMNADROCHIT TO BENEFIT FROM £40,000 OF ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

January 23, 2023

  • Works start Sunday 5 February for two nights.
  • Full road closure between 8pm and 6am.
  • A831 traffic to be diverted.
  • Amnesties will be in place on the A82.

Overnight resurfacing works will be carried out at the A82 Drumnadrochit for two nights, beginning Sunday 5 February.

The £40,000 investment by Transport Scotland, which will see a 120m stretch of carriageway resurfaced, will ensure that the A82 continues to operate safely for years to come. The section of the A82 is used by around 3,500 vehicles every day and now requires an upgrade.

The works will take place between 8pm and 6am on the nights of Sunday 5 and Monday 6 February.

Due to the narrow carriageway widths on the A82, there will be a full road closure to protect roadworkers and road users.  As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A82, vehicles will be held at either side of the work site until they can be escorted safely through the area during amnesty periods (when work is suspended) at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Traffic using the A831 junction will be diverted via an alternative route both nights to allow for this junction to be resurfaced safely and minimise disruption to both road users and site operations.

The A82 will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A82 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential for the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at this location. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by providing amnesty periods for traffic to pass.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these works. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot or Twitter at @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
