Heavy rainfall, with a Met Office Yellow warning in place on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 February, caused flooding and disruption on the trunk road network across the North West of Scotland.
BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s trunk road operating company for the North West, is working with partners including Highland Council to keep roads open where possible, with teams out clearing drains and debris, and geotechnical inspections taking place.
The A82 north of Drumnadrochit closed yesterday due to debris on the road, after flooding on the local road above caused debris to flow onto the road. This section has now reopened following the stemming of the flow of water and clearing of the debris.
The A82 between Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston is currently closed due to debris, again caused by water impacting the road from the hillside above, in two locations near Altsigh and Achnahannet. Teams are currently working on these two sites clearing debris and making them safe, with the aim of reopening Altsigh in the early evening of Tuesday 6 February. Due to the amount of debris which came down from the hillside, road clearance operations will continue at Achnahannet, with the aim of getting this section of the A82 fully opened by Wednesday 7 February.
