Sections of the A82 near Invergarry are set to benefit from an improved road surface with a new surfacing project set to get underway on Thursday.
The £280,000 project will see over a kilometre of improvements completed on the A82 south of the Laggan Swing Bridge, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
Overnight works are set to begin on Thursday 4 March and are expected to take seven nights to complete. The project will take place between 8pm and 6am each night and is due to be completed by 6am Monday 15 March, subject to weather conditions. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.
Due to the narrow road widths at this location, the A82 will be closed in both directions during working hours to ensure the safety of operatives and road users. As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A82, vehicles will be escorted through the work site using pre-set amnesty periods arranged for 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure that they can be accommodated within the amnesty periods.
The A82 will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation, such that vehicles can safely pass through the works on a temporary road surface.
Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect the operatives that are undertaking the works.
Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This £280,000 surfacing project on the A82, south of Laggan Swing Bridge, will help address any defects on the trunk road and greatly improve the running surface for motorists.
“The overnight closures are essential to the safety of our operatives and road users given the narrow width of the road. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the works overnight and by avoiding Friday and Saturday nights.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we work on this project.
