MEDIA UPDATE: OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON A82 BETWEEN TARBET AND ARDLUI POSTPONED FOLLOWING LANDSLIP AT THE REST AND BE THANKFUL

Please be advised that due to a recent landslip on the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful, the surfacing improvements planned for two locations on the A82 near Loch Lomond have been postponed until further notice.

The A83 main carriageway at the Rest and Be Thankful remains closed, however the Old Military Road (OMR) local diversion is currently in operation. As a safety precaution it might become necessary at points to close the OMR which will impact the standard diversion route which includes the two locations due to be resurfaced.

The project was scheduled to get underway from Sunday 20 September for ten nights under a full road closure, however the A82 will now remain fully open overnight to ensure motorists continue to use the A82 as a diversion route via the A85 and A819 to Inveraray if the OMR local diversion closes.

All relevant stakeholders have been made aware of the changes and will be updated once new dates are confirmed.

£170,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A82 TARBET TO ARDLUI

Project to begin from Sunday 20 September for ten nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm to 6am

Two sections of the A82 between Tarbet and Ardlui are set to benefit from an improved road surface as work is planned to upgrade the road surface later this month.

The £170,000 project will see about two kilometres of the A82 near Loch Lomond resurfaced, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

The overnight project is programmed to begin on Sunday 20 September and is expected to take ten nights to complete. The improvements will take place between 8pm and 6am each night with the project scheduled to be completed by 6am on Friday 2 October. No works are programmed to take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to the narrow widths throughout the two locations, the A82 will be closed in both directions between Tarbet and Crianlarich during working hours to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A85, A819 and A83 during working hours.

The A82 will remain open during the daytime to keep disruption to a minimum, however to ensure the safety of motorists a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.  Local access for residents, businesses and scheduled bus services will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project across these two locations of A82 will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential for ensuring the safety of roadworkers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at these locations. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
