Heavy and persistent rainfall is expected to fall over the west of Scotland over the next 24-hour period, including the area encompassing the Rest and be Thankful.
As a result of this and noting the spells of heavy rain experienced in recent days, saturation levels on the hillside above the A83 are increasing and the decision has been taken to divert all traffic passing through Glen Croe onto the Old Military Road local diversion route from 3pm this afternoon.
The local diversion route, which will operate under convoy control, will remain in place throughout Saturday night.
Our team continues to have a presence on site and our patrols are monitoring conditions closely at the Rest and be Thankful and Glen Kinglas.
Hillside conditions and the forecast weather informing the re-opening decision for the A83 at the Rest on Sunday morning.
