A road safety project to install roadside vehicle restraint barriers to improve road user safety along the A85 at Bonaw Brae and Dunira is due to start next week.
The £80,000 project will see 400m of safety barrier installed along a series of bends on the A85 two miles west of Comrie. The project has been designed to provide a safer journey for motorists with an emphasis on improving motorcyclist safety. This is part of continuing investment in road safety on the A85 by Transport Scotland.
The project is scheduled to start on Monday 14 September and is expected to take place over four weeks between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. No work will take place at the weekends.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place at all times throughout the project. Although works are only planned during the daytime, it is essential to keep traffic signals in place overnight for safety as traffic will be passing open excavations next to the roadside. These temporary lights will be removed if and when it is safe to do so.
Strict physical distancing protocols will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “This project on the A85 forms part of our commitment to improving road safety on the trunk road network, ensuring it remains safe and reliable for all road users.
“The temporary traffic lights are essential for the protection of our workforce as well as motorists. Due to the nature of the works it will be necessary to keep the traffic management in place outwith working hours for safety, however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out this essential road safety project on the A85, and every effort will be made to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.”
