A87/A855 BRIDGE ROAD JUNCTION, PORTREE

May 24, 2024

  • Road Closure with amnesties Monday 27 May 2024 for four nights

From Monday 27 May 2024 until early on Friday 31 May 2024, BEAR Scotland, Operating Company working on behalf of Transport Scotland, is embarking on the next stage of the project to install new traffic signals to improve safety on the A87 at the junction to A855 Bridge Road in Portree.
These improvements will introduce traffic signals to the busy junction to regulate flows and provide safer pedestrian crossing arrangements.
Next Key Project Details:
Duration: Monday 27 May until Friday 31 May 2024
Work Hours: 7pm – 6am, Monday to Friday
Traffic Measures: Road Closure with amnesties.
This part of the project involves the resurfacing of the carriageway to provide a smoother but skid resistant surface. To avoid daytime disruption and to provide a safe work area, these works are to be done overnight from 1900 until 6am the next morning. All noisy works should be complete by 11pm. To undertake this work, they will need to be undertaken with a road closure with amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am when queuing vehicles will be allowed through the site.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said, “Road safety is a top priority for BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland, and we are pleased to see this important project progressing.
“The temporary traffic management arrangements are essential for the protection of our workforce as well as the travelling public. Due to the nature of this element of the project, we require to close the road for a period of time. Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible and minimise delays and inconvenience to the local community. Permanent signalling works will take place in early June and will be operational by mid-June.”
Road users are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website and Twitter @trafficscotland for real-time journey updates.
