A section of the A90 south of Brechin is set to benefit from major resurfacing improvements worth £440,000 with work set to get underway later this week.
The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between Balnabreich and Nether Careston, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.
The project is scheduled to start on Saturday 28 and will take place over one week using 24-hour working with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 5 December. To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows;
Local access to properties within the scheme extents will be maintained throughout the duration of the works either by signed diversion routes or by being safely escorted through the scheme extents. The Balnabreich Junction and crossover will be closed to southbound traffic during the works, however a signed diversion will be in place to guide motorists to their destination. Bus stops within the site will also be kept open and serviced by the local buses. Access to the Coffee Bothy will also be made available with signs in place to guide customers through the works access.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £440,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works under a contraflow traffic management system which will keep the traffic moving.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
