SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS WORTH OVER £1.2M SET FOR A90 FORFAR BYPASS

 A90 Douglastown Underpass to Gateside Slips, southbound

 Work to continue over two weeks

A section of the A90 Forfar bypass near Douglastown is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements worth £1.2M with work set to get underway this week.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between the Douglastown Underpass & Gateside slip roads, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is planned to take place over two weeks using 24-hour working, with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 26 September. To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be in place on the network as follows;

• Tuesday 15 September – Overnight lane closure on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place from 7.30pm to allow for traffic management to be installed ahead of the surfacing improvements.

• Wednesday 16 September to Saturday 26 September – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, a contraflow system will be in place starting just after the Douglastown off-slip until after the Gateside Slips from 7.30am Wednesday 16 September until 6.30am Saturday 26 September. Signed diversion routes will be in place for all affected junctions.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.  New safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £1.2 million investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works under a contraflow traffic management system which will keep the traffic moving.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
