The first phase of a £650,000 project to repair the damaged A90 Glencarse Overbridge is set to begin next month.
The essential project will allow work to begin to repair and replace some of the steel structural beams and associated components beneath the bridge deck which were heavily damaged after being struck by an overheight vehicle in October. The bridge has since been partially closed for safety and the work will allow the team to begin the essential repairs to allow the bridge to be repaired.
The first phase is set to begin on Monday 17 August and is expected to take up to seven weeks to complete.
The A90 will remain open during the project, however to keep roadworkers and motorists safe and to complete the work in the shortest possible timescale, the northbound carriageway will be closed and a contraflow system will be in operation for the duration of the project, with traffic running in one lane in each direction on the southbound carriageway.
During the bridge repairs the overbridge will remain open throughout the vast majority of the repairs, however some short overnight closures will be required at times to allow teams to safely carry out engineering work on the bridge deck. A short, signed diversion route will be in place via the Kinfauns and Glendoick junctions when the bridge deck is closed, and efforts will be made to keep the overnight bridge deck closures to a minimum during the first phase of work.
Once the first phase of work is complete the second phase of repairs is expected to begin in mid-October and will involve refurbishment of the concrete bridge deck. More information and traffic management details will be shared ahead of the second phase getting underway.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe. Safe operating procedures and risk assessments have been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.
Consultation has been carried out with Transport Scotland, Perth & Kinross Council, emergency services, community councils and transport operators to inform them of the project in advance.
