The slip roads on the A90 at St Madoes between Perth and Dundee are set to benefit from major surfacing improvements with work set to get underway on Sunday.
The improvements will involve renewing the road surface on the southbound on and off-slips and the northbound off-slip as well as upgrading road markings, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.
The £555,000 project is programmed to start on Sunday 17 January and is expected to take place over two weeks using 24-hour working. All improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 29 January. To allow the project to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner, restrictions will be required on the network as follows;
The A90 St Madoes southbound on and off-slips will be closed and a single lane closure will be in place on the southbound A90 carriageway from 7.30pm Sunday 17 January until 6.30am Friday 22 January. Motorists wishing to use the southbound on-slip will be diverted onto the northbound A90 via the Glencarse Junction to the Glendoick interchange and onto the southbound A90. Traffic looking to use the southbound off-slip will be diverted to the Kinfauns interchange and onto the northbound A90 to St Madoes.
The A90 St Madoes northbound off-slip will be closed and a single lane closure will be in place on the A90 northbound carriageway across the slip road from 7.30pm Sunday 24 January until 6.30am Friday 29 January. Traffic looking to use the northbound off-slip will be diverted into St Madoes via the Glencarse Junction.
No work is programmed to take place over the weekend.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect teams and ensure they remain safe at all times.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £555,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen these sections of the A90 between Perth and Dundee, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to be carried out using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
