FIRST PHASE OF ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON A90 IN STIRLING VILLAGE UNDERWAY

Work to continue for two weeks

A new road safety project on the A90 south of Peterhead is underway this week which will involve teams installing new electronic signs to help encourage road users to drive safely.

The project will involve teams installing a power supply in the verge at the northern gateway to Stirling Village ahead of a new dynamic speed indicator display sign being installed later this month. The new sign is expected to help encourage motorists to slow down and follow the 40mph speed limit which applies throughout the village.

The first phase of the project is underway from today (Monday 5 October) and is programmed to take place over two weeks between 9.30am to 3.30pm. No work is scheduled to take place over the weekend.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours.

Further road safety improvements are programmed at this location of the A90 for early next year.

Strict physical distancing protocols will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “Safety is a top priority for both BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland and the delivery of this scheme on the A90 will help improve road safety as well as ensuring the network remains to the highest of standards.

“The traffic management is essential to keep the workforce and road users safe during this project, however we will do all we can to complete the work as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
